How to make it
7 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (approx 110°F (43°C)), sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
10 minCombine flour, salt, melted butter, 1 egg, and the yeast mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, melted butter, 1 egg, and the yeast mixture. Knead by hand or with a dough hook for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
10 minPlace dough in a greased bowl
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
1 hrPunch down the dough
Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal balls. Roll each ball into a large circle on a floured surface. Cut each circle into 6 triangles (like a pizza).
Roll each triangle up from the wide base toward the point
Roll each triangle up from the wide base toward the point. Bend the ends slightly to create a crescent shape. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash
Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using. Let rise for another 20 minutes.
20 minBake in the preheated oven
Bake in the preheated oven at 390°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes or until deep golden brown.

A little kitchen wisdom
Ensure the milk is warm but not hot, otherwise it will kill the yeast. You can sprinkle these with caraway seeds or coarse salt for more flavor.
