How to make it
5 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Slice the white bread loaf
Slice the white bread loaf into rounds about 1.5 cm thick. If using a baguette, slice on a slight bias to create larger surface area.
Spread a generous layer of potato salad across each slice of bread
Spread a generous layer of potato salad across each slice of bread, covering it almost to the edges.
Fold the thin slices of ham
Fold the thin slices of ham into fans or rolls and place one or two on each sandwich over the potato salad.
Place a slice of hard-boiled egg and a few slices of pickle next
Place a slice of hard-boiled egg and a few slices of pickle next to the ham. Add a strip of pickled red pepper for color.
Garnish with a sprig of fresh parsley and a tiny dollop of mayonnaise if desired
Garnish with a sprig of fresh parsley and a tiny dollop of mayonnaise if desired. Serve immediately or cover lightly with plastic wrap to prevent the bread from drying out.
A little kitchen wisdom
For the most authentic flavor, use 'veka' bread, which is a soft, long white loaf common in Central Europe. If unavailable, a soft French baguette or Italian loaf works well.
