How to make it
5 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Heat the olive oil
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced garlic, chili flakes, and anchovies
Add the sliced garlic, chili flakes, and anchovies. Cook, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant and the anchovies have mostly melted into the oil, about 3-5 minutes.
5 minStir in the crushed tomatoes
Stir in the crushed tomatoes. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 15 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
15 minAdd the olives and capers
Add the olives and capers. Simmer for another 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
5 minRemove from heat
Remove from heat and stir in the freshly chopped parsley. Serve over cooked pasta.
A little kitchen wisdom
Traditional puttanesca is bold and salty. If you are sensitive to salt, rinse the capers and anchovies before using. It's best served with long pasta like spaghetti or linguine.
