How to make it
5 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Combine the ground peanuts, ginger powder, garlic powder, onion powder
In a bowl, combine the ground peanuts, ginger powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, bouillon, and salt. Mix thoroughly to create the Yaji spice blend.
Thinly slice the beef
Thinly slice the beef into long, flexible strips. Thread the meat onto soaked skewers in an accordion-like fashion.
Brush the skewered beef
Brush the skewered beef with vegetable oil, then generously coat each skewer with the Yaji spice mix, pressing it into the meat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
30 minPreheat your grill or oven
Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C). Grill the skewers for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through and the spice coating is slightly charred.
15 minServe hot with sliced red onions and extra Yaji spice
Serve hot with sliced red onions and extra Yaji spice on the side.
A little kitchen wisdom
Traditional Suya is made with Kuli-Kuli (defatted peanut paste cake), but roasted peanut powder is an excellent home substitute. Use wooden skewers soaked in water to prevent burning.
