How to make it
4 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Combine the hot sauce, distilled white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce
In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, distilled white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt.
Place the saucepan
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer while whisking continuously.
3 minReduce the heat to low
Once simmering, reduce the heat to low. Gradually add the cold, cubed butter one or two pieces at a time, whisking constantly until each piece is fully melted and incorporated before adding more.
5 minAs soon as all the butter is melted and the sauce is smooth and thickened
As soon as all the butter is melted and the sauce is smooth and thickened, remove from heat immediately to prevent the sauce from breaking.
A little kitchen wisdom
For the most authentic flavor, use a cayenne-based hot sauce like Frank's RedHot. Whisking the butter in slowly at the end is the key to a smooth, emulsified sauce.
