How to make it
6 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Make a well in the center
Make a well in the center and add the egg, melted butter, vanilla extract, and warm milk. Stir until a dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a clean cloth and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
30 minDivide the dough
Divide the dough into 10 equal balls. Roll each ball out on a floured surface until it is very thin and almost translucent, forming a circle of about 8-10 inches.
Heat about 1 inch of oil
Heat about 1 inch of oil in a large skillet to 350°F (177°C). Fry each buñuelo for about 60 seconds per side until golden brown and crispy.
2 minRemove from oil and drain
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. While still warm, generously dust both sides with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
A little kitchen wisdom
For the best results, make sure the dough rests for at least 20 minutes to allow the gluten to relax, making it easier to roll out thinly. The thinner you roll the dough, the crispier the buñuelos will be.
