How to make it
4 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt
In a wide, shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle
Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add half of the butter and melt until it begins to foam.
Dip each slice of bread
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture for about 10-15 seconds per side, allowing it to soak up the custard without becoming completely mushy.
Place the soaked bread
Place the soaked bread onto the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crisp. Repeat with the remaining bread and butter.

A little kitchen wisdom
Using day-old bread prevents the French toast from becoming soggy. Brioche or Challah are the best choices due to their high egg and butter content.
