How to make it
6 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Place the stale kaiser roll
Place the stale kaiser roll in a small bowl and pour the milk over it. Let it soak for about 10 minutes until soft.
10 minWhile the roll is soaking, finely dice the onion
While the roll is soaking, finely dice the onion. You can optionally saute it in a teaspoon of oil until translucent for a milder flavor, or leave it raw for a sharper bite.
Squeeze the excess milk out of the soaked roll
Squeeze the excess milk out of the soaked roll. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, soaked roll, egg, diced onion, salt, and black pepper.
Knead the mixture
Knead the mixture by hand for a few minutes until it is smooth and well combined. Form the mixture into 8 oval patties.
Place the breadcrumbs
Place the breadcrumbs on a shallow plate. Roll each patty in the breadcrumbs until evenly coated on all sides.
Heat the vegetable oil
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties for about 5-7 minutes per side until they are golden brown and cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

A little kitchen wisdom
For the juiciest results, use a mix of ground pork and beef (70/30). If you don't have a kaiser roll, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs soaked in milk works perfectly.
