How to make it
5 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Combine the 250ml of still water and 100g of sugar
In a small saucepan, combine the 250ml (1 cup) of still water and 100g (1/2 cup) of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Bring to a brief boil, then remove from heat.
5 minAllow the sugar syrup
Allow the sugar syrup to cool completely to room temperature. You can speed this up by placing the pan in an ice bath.
1 hrStir in the 500ml of fresh orange juice and the lemon juice
Once the syrup is cool, stir in the 500ml (2 cups) of fresh orange juice and the lemon juice. Mix well until combined.
Just before serving
Just before serving, pour the orange concentrate into a large pitcher. Slowly add the 1 liter (4 1/4 cups) of chilled sparkling water. Stir gently to avoid losing too much carbonation.
Pour into glasses filled
Pour into glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with an orange slice and serve immediately.
A little kitchen wisdom
For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed oranges. If you prefer it less sweet, reduce the sugar in the syrup. You can also add a sprig of mint for a modern twist.
