How to make it
6 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
Dissolve the yeast
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water, around 110°F (43°C). Gradually pour the water into the flour mixture while mixing with your hand.
Beat the dough vigorously
Beat the dough vigorously for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. The dough will remain very sticky and difficult to handle.
10 minCover the bowl with a damp cloth and leave
Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place to rise until tripled in size, about 2 to 3 hours.
2 hr 30 minHeat vegetable oil
Heat vegetable oil to 180°C (356°F) in a deep frying pan. Wet your hands, grab a small ball of dough, poke a hole in the middle to form a ring, and carefully drop it into the hot oil.
Fry until golden brown
Fry until golden brown on both sides, flipping once. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
A little kitchen wisdom
The dough must be very sticky and wet to achieve the signature airy texture. Wet your hands with water while shaping the rings to prevent the dough from sticking to your fingers.
