How to make it
5 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Slice the baguette
Slice the baguette in half lengthwise.
Rub the cut side of both halves of the bread
Rub the cut side of both halves of the bread with the ripe tomato halves until the bread is coated in pulp and juice.
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomato-rubbed bread and add a tiny pinch of salt.
Layer the slices of Jamón Serrano evenly
Layer the slices of Jamón Serrano evenly on the bottom half of the baguette. Do not lay them flat; fold or ripple the ham to create volume.
Close the sandwich
Close the sandwich with the top half of the bread and press down lightly.
A little kitchen wisdom
Quality is key here. Use the best extra virgin olive oil and authentic Jamón Serrano or Iberico if available. For the most traditional experience, rub the bread with a halved tomato until only the skin remains.
