How to make it

4 steps. Take it one step at a time.

  1. Place the Thai coffee grounds

Place the Thai coffee grounds in a coffee filter or a traditional Thai coffee sock. Pour 240 ml (1 cup) of boiling water (212°F / 100°C) over the grounds and let it steep for 3-5 minutes.

  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and sugar

While the coffee is still hot, add the sweetened condensed milk and sugar. Stir vigorously until completely dissolved.

  3. Fill a tall glass

Fill a tall glass to the brim with crushed ice. Pour the hot coffee mixture slowly over the ice.

  4. Gently pour the evaporated milk

Gently pour the evaporated milk over the top of the coffee. It should float and swirl downward into the dark coffee for a marbled effect. Serve immediately with a straw.

A little kitchen wisdom

For a truly authentic taste, use a Thai coffee mix that contains roasted chicory or corn. You can also use a strong French roast if Thai coffee mix is unavailable.

Keep the good going

For now. And for later.

Make it ahead

You can brew the coffee base and mix in the condensed milk and sugar ahead of time. Store in the fridge for up to 3 days and pour over fresh ice when ready to serve.

Store & enjoy

Best consumed immediately after adding ice. Without ice, the coffee base stays fresh in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Serve chilled, do not reheat.
