How to make it
4 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Fill the bottom pot of the çaydanlık
Fill the bottom pot of the çaydanlık with the 4 cups (950 ml) of filtered water and place it on the stove to boil.
5 minPlace the 2 tbsp of tea leaves
Place the 2 tbsp (10 g) of tea leaves into the upper pot. Once the water in the bottom pot boils, pour about 1 cup (237 ml) of it over the tea leaves in the top pot.
Refill the bottom pot
Refill the bottom pot with a bit more water and place the upper pot on top of the lower pot. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer so the steam from the bottom pot steeps the tea in the top pot for 15-20 minutes.
20 minTo serve, pour the concentrated tea from the top pot
To serve, pour the concentrated tea from the top pot into a glass until it is about 1/3 or 1/2 full, then dilute with the boiling water from the bottom pot. Serve with sugar cubes on the side.
A little kitchen wisdom
Always use filtered water for the best flavor. The quality of the loose-leaf tea is paramount; look for Rize tea or high-quality Ceylon black tea.
