How to make it
3 steps. Take it one step at a time.
Brew a single shot of espresso directly
Brew a single shot (30ml) of espresso directly into a pre-warmed demitasse cup.
Steam a small amount of cold milk
Steam a small amount of cold milk in a pitcher until it reaches approximately 65°C (150°F), creating a thick, dense micro-foam.
1 minSpoon 1-2 teaspoons of the milk foam
Spoon 1-2 teaspoons of the milk foam onto the center of the espresso shot. The white foam should sit on top of the crema, 'marking' the coffee.
A little kitchen wisdom
The word 'macchiato' means 'stained' or 'marked' in Italian. This drink is intended to be a stronger alternative to a cappuccino, highlighting the espresso's flavor with just a hint of creamy sweetness.
